DELHI TWP. -- A Delhi Road business has literally waltzed its way
to an appearance on MTV.
The Miracle Dance Theatre and its co-owner and artistic director
Timothy Miracle will be featured during the July 31 premier of the
cable TV show MTV "MADE."
Miracle and many of the dance studio's students helped prepare a
La Salle High School junior chosen for the show. "Made" revolves
around taking a willing teen on a mission to change their total
image.
The teen was Jordan Rolfes of College Hill who wanted to be prom
king.
"When Jordan first came in here he was shy and sort of stood
slumped over and didn't appear to have a lot of confidence," said
Jeff Pitzer, co-owner and dance theater administrator.
Miracle agreed to work with the teen which, Pitzer said, involved
four weeks of special sessions that went beyond learning dance
moves.
Pitzer said many of the dance studio's students, both young and
older, and some more seasoned dancers helped.
He said the dance theater, which moved from a 10-year stint in
Price Hill to Delhi Township three years ago, was the first choice
of MTV producers.
"What we did went beyond dancing to trying to work on Jordan's
confidence and the way he presented himself," Miracle said.
Miracle taught him a hip-hop routine as well as a waltz. The
slower dance number helped teach the teen how to ask a girl to dance
and how to lead her to the dance floor.
Miracle and Pitzer were invited to Rolfes' La Salle prom where he
realized his "Made" dream of being crowned prom king.
"We got to see him dance and he did everything we had taught
him," Miracle said. "It was really exciting to stand back and watch
him in action."
All of the hours they devoted to Rolfes was worth it, the two men
decided. All of those hours were volunteer and they were not paid
for their efforts.
While they were working with Rolfes, Miracle, his staff and
students also were getting ready for the recent national
competitions.
Pitzer said the school earned four national titles for the third
year in a row. Plus, he said, Miracle and several of the other
instructors were named choreographers of the year in their
respective categories.
Pitzer said the MTV show is scheduled to air at 4:30 p.m. Monday,
July 31.
